Desert oasis

This project explores death and rebirth in a desert oasis. The structure sits in the desert terrain as a skeletal form that reaches out into the sand, guiding pilgrims in and out of its heart - the oasis.

The final model measures over 6 feet and splits into 2 pieces to reveal the interior space.

Program

  • Entering the oasis, a large open space with shade/soft light immediately greets travelers, so everyone can plop down and relax right away

  • Moving beyond the entrance, shade increases/lighting dims and there are several smaller spaces for increased privacy

  • Further into the oasis, travelers will start to hear water. There’s a reservoir with moving water at the base of the oasis. Travelers can bathe, drink, and rest here

  • Travelers can move freely through spaces. When ready to leave, they exit through reservoir space. Skeletal walls guide them back into the desert, shielding them for a little longer, and pointing them in right direction
