Time Owes Us Remembrance

Fiber and fabric weave together in Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya’s undulating sculpture, forming a monument to generations of Thai and American textile communities.

Joining the project in the early stages, I consulted on concept, fabrication strategy, and participated in the first month of weaving and set up.

More about the completed project can be found on Phingbodhipakkiya’s website.

Weavings

Phingbodhipakkiya’s original render was our North Star during construction.

The render was divided into sections. Each section corresponded to a weaving, on average, about 9 feet long.

Structure

Repeating modules provided the underlying shape for the sculpture and support for the weavings. We then covered the armature with mesh for additional shaping and tie-points for completed weavings.
