Portal design system
In 2022, one frontend engineer and I collaborated to establish a reusable design system (DS) for the Nexar API portal. We took care to maintain the Figma file as our “source of truth” to enable easy additions of features in the future.
We focused on creating intuitive interactions; and I especially wanted to connect the futuristic personality of the marketing site to the portal.
DS applied
The first release of the Partner Portal (shown below) was made with a Bootstrap template.
With the new design system, we launched our own custom environment. As the features within the API Portal evolved, so did our layouts and component library.
Adaptable design
One year later in 2023, our team had to quickly launch new tools in a unique portal experience under the Octopart brand.
The frontend engineer and I decided to rebrand the existing design system for the new portal. This decision saved time for both design and development. We were able to release the new portal in two months.
Applying the design system across brands also benefits us in the long run.
Simplified code management
If we create a new component for one portal environment, all related environments will also gain the new component
Shared UX/UI across portals
Although color application and logos will change across portals, the elements and interactions across each portal will remain consistent; helping to create a cohesive suite of products.
